Police officers in Buruburu last Wednesday (14th October 2020) night arrested five robbery with violence suspects purporting to be Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators in Buruburu.

The five – Samuel Maina Wanyoike, Joseph Wainaina Gitau, Felix Otieno, Dennis Omondi Otieno, and Collins Oduor – were nabbed on a Travelers Sacco matatu by the officers acting on intelligence.

The said vehicle, registration number KBK 624F, was captured on CCTV footage as it was being pursued by a group of motorcycle riders after the occupants had allegedly lured and violently robbed a man, who later sought the riders’ assistance.

The suspects were arrested before the victim reported to the station and positively identified them and narrated his ordeal.

Charged in court

All the recovered items were kept as exhibits and presented to Makadara Law Courts when the suspects were arraigned.

The five suspects were arraigned yesterday (Monday 19th October 2020) at Makadara Law Courts and charged with various counts of Robbery with Violence, Stealing, Handling Stolen Property and Being in Possession of Suspected Stolen Property,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

The accused were later released on Sh500,000 bond with one surety of the same amount pending mention of the case on November 2, 2020.

“While the suspects were being booked in the Occurrence Book, the victim reported to the station, positively identified them and narrated his ordeal,” the DCI said.

All the recovered items were kept as exhibits and presented during the arraignment.
