Residents of Embakasi West who live near First Love Church in Umoja 2 Ward have been complaining about stomach ailments for the past two weeks.
Umoja News learnt that people from this are have had to visit hospitals over cholera and diarrhoea.
Digging further we found that the cause of the issue is seasonal and has never been rectified.
Under the ‘T’ junction road that is in front of First Love Church, there’s a storm water big drainage that carries excess water from the roads towards Ruai.
This drainage is often broken causing flooding from Unity Primary School towards First Love Church. In the same network of drainage, there’s a sewer line nearby and water piping. During cold seasons, the anomalous expansion of water causes pipe to burst thereby mixing sewage and piped water.
The contaminated water finds itself into houses that are nearby from Unity primary school, towards Umoja 2.
This is the cause of the occasional cholera and other stomach ailments in the area.
When George Theuri came to power, he tried to correct this by digging a very huge stormwater draiange, but the habit of throwing garbage anyhow is costing parents while enriching doctors. It still floods in front of First Love Church.
