Gangs in Eastleigh that had been stifled under the dreaded reign of Ahmed Rashid are now roaming freely terrorising residents.
On Saturday, a CCTV video went viral showing a 26 year old businessman Adan Ali Mohamed getting shot and robbed of Sh3 million is just one of the recent cases.
In this incident, reports indicate that the businessman sustained injuries from the gunshot during the altercation. Well-wishers rushed him to the nearby Health Gate Hospital, where he is recuperating. His condition, as at now, is not yet established.
In August last year, police launched an investigation into the fatal stabbing of a notorious criminal along Third Avenue in Eastleigh.
The 19-year-old victim was involved in a confrontation between rival criminal gangs.
In November, three individuals suspected of belonging to a criminal gang involved in extorting money from PSV operators were apprehended and charged with robbery with violence. These suspects allegedly targeted PSV drivers and matatu Sacco officials, demanding payment for their services and resorting to violence when refused.
Their charges include forcibly collecting Ksh6,400 from an individual along First Avenue, robbing a Sacco official of Ksh7,200, and stealing Ksh3,000 and a mobile phone worth Ksh10,000 during a daylight robbery.
Some Kenyans online have expressed a desire to have Ahmed Rashid released back to tackle the new wave of crime.
