Dear Eastlanders, If elections were held today, whom will you vote for?
A: Johnson Sakaja of UDA Party
B: Polycarp Igathe of Azimio La Umoja
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio la Umoja presidential hopeful Raila Odinga struck a deal late yesterday in the evening to end the stalemate over the Nairobi governorship race.
After almost seven hours, two meetings and numerous phone calls between the leaders, it was agreed ODM governor hopeful Tim Wanyonyi shelves his ambition and agrees to back Jubilee nominee Polycarp Igathe as his deputy.
Weeks ago, William Ruto’s UDA Party had settled on Johnson Sakaja as Governor. Sakaja’s deputy has not yet been named. For Kenya Kwanza, it seemed easy.
“Kenya Kwanza is elated that it will be fielding Johnson Sakaja as its Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate. Senator Sakaja is a leader who measures up to the challenges facing our City. Bishop Wanjiru defers her gubernatorial bid and will now go for the senate seat,” Ruto said on 9th April 2022.
In the Azimio la Umoja, one small hitch popped out that will be ironed today: Wiper party of Kalonzo Musyoka had already entered into an agreement to have Prof Philip Kaloki deputise Igathe and with the new arrangement, Wiper will be staking out for another slot.
As the election date nears, it is well to pose this question, Nairobi Voter, whom will you vote for as Governor, Igathe or Sakaja?
