Yesterday, Members of the National Assembly voted for the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 often known as Building Bridges Initiative abbreviated as BBI.
If the 320 MPs that took the vote, the Ayes were tallied at 235, the Nays at 83. Two MPs, Wario Qalicha Gufu of Moyale and Moses Kipkemboi Cheboi of Kuresoi North, both of Jubilee Party, abstained.
Embakasi legislator George Theuri, who has sided with Deputy President William Ruto voted NO.
DP Ruto has been on the ‘opposition’ side since the inception of the handshake in March 2018.
The BBI bill was debated in the National Assembly since last Wednesday.
A case in court ordered the IEBC against conducting or preparing for a referendum on the bill before the matter before it is dispensed of.
Should the courts uphold the process, the IEBC would call a vote by universal suffrage.
The House was adjourned a few minutes to midnight.
