Kenya Railways cops are selling plots of land for stall at the Mutindwa Market in Umoje/Buruburu estate, Umoja News can now establish.
In August 2020, the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) demolished Mutindwa Market ostensibly to pave way for the construction of a Railways Station.
“These are the same Railways attached Cops that are selling plots for stalls at Mutindwa for Ksh 20K after illegally closing Sonko road. Well done DCI”, Umoja News followed this tip from a Twitter User Phoenix Prodigal.
Nearly a year after that exercise, the market stall is back in full swing courtesy of bribe-taking KRC manage.
The Mutindwa market is an important point connecting Buruburu and Umoja Estates and should have been kept lean, orderly and safe by removing the market from the area.
Some residents have attributed the rise in prostitution and drug habits due to the existence of the Mutindwa market.
The nearby Bidii Primary School, which is a giant in academics has always wanted part of the market bordering its walls gone.
“We must enforce city laws. We can’t have illegal structures being set up on road reserves and outside schools. We have to protect our children,” Peter Mbaya, the Director of operations for Mutindwa Market demolitions said in 2018.
