Entering Umoja Estate for the first time (or whatever times), one would often hear of stage names, one of those famous ones was Sango Pub Stage.
Well, maybe that will have to change as Sango Pub is no more. Thanks to the negative effects of measures to fight Covid-19 where bars, hotels, eateries and other social places were closed down.
Sad.
Sango Pub, a small but porpular outfit, stood at a corner of Moi Drive between Skymatt Supermarket (formerly Grand Supermarket) and Unity Primary School at the A257 building in want is usually referred to as Tena part of Umoja Estate. The house has now been replaced by another business, a Jocrew Electricals and Electronics shop.
Oloiboni Hotel, nearby, is a new address on this scene.
Sango actually survived the closure in the months of March, April, May, June, July, until August came and President Uhuru Kenyatta didn’t open up completely.
For me, a resident of Umoja Estate for over 17 years, the ‘death’ of such an imposing business in terms of notability is a loss.
This article is an obituary to it, a business cherished by kalewas of Tena estate part of Umoja.
I hope the name Sango Stage stays on.
