The Sacco’s management later explained that the deceased, a man identified as Mr Jared Omondi, was not in their vehicle at the time of the accident but was a pedestrian who got knocked dead by a mkokoteni (hand cart) that had been knocked by the vehicle.
Cases of touts pushing passengers out of moving vehicles are rampant. Though not too many, most end up with fatalities as police investigators and criminal gangs collude in the collection of bribes.
Many matatus are owned or run by criminal gangs and as such, police iften look the other way in such cases. Most of the cases are bangled after the investigating officers are bribed.
Jared Omondi should not die in vain, he should be the last.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) must investigate the truth of the matter.
