Residents witnessed a bizarre incident on Thursday when a senior police officer based in Kayole shot himself and injured a civilian in Airway, Utawala.
The officer, identified as Superintendent Ezra Ouma, had called his station commander and threatened to kill himself before the incident.
Unfortunately, by the time she reached his house, Ouma had already shot himself in the chin.
He was rushed to Modern Komarock Hospital by his neighbors, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The scene was visited by senior officers from Ruai and Kayole police stations, who established that during the commotion, Ouma also shot his 35-year-old neighbor, Philip Muhavi Ayieka, in the left foot as he tried to stop him from carrying out his mission.
In charge of special operations
Ayieka was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
The motive for the suicide is yet to be confirmed, but colleagues said he had been a victim of extortion and threats.
Ouma was in charge of the Special Operations Bureau at the Kayole police division.
At his level as the SOB, he was one of the senior officers in the division.
He was due to retire in two years.
On his social media pages, Ouma appeared to be full of life.
Not long ago, he proudly showcased the mansion he was building in Utawala.
Unfortunately, he committed suicide in this same mansion.
