Killer police squad, Hessy Wa Dandora on Sunday issued a stern warning to muggers and petty thieves that operate along Outering Road, Nairobi.
“Been alerted of insecurity kwa outering footbriges from Alsops, Naivas, Kariobangi/Kiamaiko, Equity and Donholm. Manhunt has started bila kikomo. Ati watu hugongwa na gari sababu mikora huwa wamewangojea hapo kwa foot bridge. Ninazama, nikizuka kitaeleweka”, he tweeted from his official Twitter account @DandoraHessy.
The ‘Hessy’ name is believed to be used by a group of more than one police officer who executes young men extra-judicially.
Unfulfilled promise
In March 2019, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti promised to look into their activities.
Mr Kinoti stated firmly that there will be no more killings done by faceless police group Hessy Wa Kayole and Hessy wa Dandora.
“I’ve handled complaints about our colleagues taking law into their own hands and killing our fellow citizens. It’s true criminals are here in Kayole and other slum areas. As we seek to enforce the law, we must observe the rights of our people. We won’t be officers forever. Our families live in the very society which we harass. I can assure you that no officer under my command will be covered when he or she has killed an innocent citizen. I won’t cover you. If I do, then let me be cursed” the DCI boss said at Kayole Social Hall.
DCI Kinoti said he “does not know who these hessys are”, promising to investigate their work.
Broken justice system
Kenyans often cheer the killings of young rogue men because of the broken justice system where police are accused of banging cases.
It might seem like a sigh of relief when one less thief is taken out of the world forever but in the end, justice doesn’t work like that as some have been reportedly mistakenly shot.
