Twitter Influencer Osama Otero was on a tour of Umoja Estate for unspecified reasons.
His tweets, as usual elicited mixed reactions with most people that know Umoja Estate sharing fond memeories of goodness past.

Dr Rowena Njeri responded
“Umoja did not look like that in 90s at all. It had tarmac roads, uniform bungalows, very clean. Umo 1 haina shida ya maji that’s in those extended areas near kayole fake umojas. I’m a proud alumna of umoja 1 primary but tbh that environment now is sink or swim. Hakuna katikati and innercore, umoja 2 water issue. From Tena estate on your left is the true Umoja, on the right which follows the moi drive curve you’re likely on is Innercore. It was flat grassland then no buildings, n the beginning of water crisis with rapid unregulated construction”.
Umoja has rapidly deteriorated over the past years and many who grew up in that Estate in what is now Embakasi West Constituency no longe fancy it. Many have moved, never to look back as the once glamorous estate turns into a big slum, attracting low earners from Kayole and such.
Was born in Umo and I can tell you, that wasn't the case back then which was most peaceful, not conjested as it is and clean, even tidier the most places I have ever been to,these just by the look at it ? weeeh ISA no no?

True, when the houses were only main houses, running water throughout, proper courts, ample security and playgrounds, proper garbage disposal & drainage, the fruit trees in everyhouse…These days its a slum hadi kwa google!Such a shame, whoever planned it had thought it through?

Osama had a series of tweets even wondering how there are no roads in the estate that has ben led by a Jubilee Parliamentarian George Theuri for a decade. Clearly Mark Mwenje has a lot of work to do on drainage, roads, and lighting.
The National Construction Authority must move with speed to save Umoja from slum-like conditions.
Umoja News thinks the houses are enough and no more should be built.
