President Uhuru Kenyatta has Thursday flagged-off distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine from the Central Vaccine Depot in Kitengela, Kajiado County ahead of the launch of a national vaccination campaign tomorrow.
The President reiterated Government’s commitment to ensure the success of the vaccination exercise and urged Kenyans to continue observing Covid-19 containment protocols.
At the same time, the Head of State cautioned Kenyans including the media to stop peddling falsehoods on the Covid-19 vaccination exercise saying frontline health workers and service providers will be the first in line to receive the vaccine.
The vaccines which arrived in the country to nights ago were bought under the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) initiative.
COVAX is a global initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and others.
The ministry of health has assured Kenyans that the vaccines will be given free of charge to Kenyans. This is after reports indicated that they were overpriced by more than 50 per cent from the price sold in Western Countries.
Dr Collins Tabu, the head of National Immunisation Programme at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Friday says the first Covid-19 vaccine jab will be administered tomorrow at hospital.
