Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) customers using 5G smartphones are set to enjoy a free 5GB data bundle to experience the super-fast 5G network, as coverage and device penetration continue to grow.

The free 5GB data delight, which is valid for 24 hours, is available and exclusive to all Safaricom subscribers using 5G smartphones. Customers can redeem the offer via MySafaricom App under ‘Go Monthly’ then ‘Go 5G’ option. The offer is available until 24th June 2023, redeemable once per customer.

“As a digital lifestyle enabler, we continue to avail exciting data offers, and invest in our network to provide our customers a worry-free experience. We are also keen to empower Kenyans to start exploring the limitless possibilities that 5G provides,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom PLC.

The data delight follows last month’s introduction of 5G data bundles to enable Safaricom’s over 400,000 customers using 5G smartphones to browse at ultra-fast speeds. The 5G bundles are personalised based on usage, and are available on Tunukiwa via MySafaricom App, www.safaricom.com, and USSD *444# or *544#.

Home and Enterprise customers in 5G zones can also enjoy the network through 5G Wi-Fi. To check available 5G zones or get 5G Wi-Fi, customers can visit https://internet.safaricom.co.ke/5g-wireless/coverage.

In October 2022, Safaricom became the first service provider in Kenya to launch 5G. Since then, coverage has grown to 28 towns across 21 counties.

To enable Kenyans experience how 5G can transform homes and businesses, Safaricom partnered with Huawei to set up 5G experience centres at Safaricom’s Village Market, The Hub and Buruburu Shops. The centres contain virtual reality gaming zones, showcases of smart-capabilities for homes and enterprises, and speed-testing booths.
