Police have launched a pursuit for six remandees who escaped from Kayole police station.
According to police report, the six suspects broke through the roof at the wee hours of Monday, August 31, never to be seen again.
Five of the suspects were arrested and were facing robbery with violence charges while the sixth one had been charged with a defilement case.
Officer commanding Kayole police station Isaac Thuranira refused to comment on the matter but promised to issue a comprehensive statement in a week’s time.
Officers manning the police station learnt about break out at 3am after they were informed by the other suspects.
The suspects escaped from the cell after they dug a hole through the wall.
“The escapees had cut an angle line metal bar that reinforced the cells door and used the same to dig the hole,” read the report.
The officers then commenced a search for the suspects before they spotted one of the escapees named Isaac Wekesa who was running into a bush near an airstrip.
He was shot on the thigh before he was arrested and taken to Bungoma referral hospital where he is presently admitted and in stable condition as a manhunt for the remaining escapees continues.
The escapees were identified as Brian Ochieng Onyango (robbery with violence), John Wanyonyi (robbery with violence), Clerkson Otieno (burglary), Simon Wekesa (assault) and Collins Juma Nyukuri (assault).
The others were Alex Simiyu Muyekho (stealing), Bramwel Barasa (defilement), Pascal Kiberenge Namasaka (impersonation), Emmanuel Wakoko (assault) and John Barasa Wekesa (breaking and stealing).
