Nairobi County Government has banned the issuance of new licences for restaurants and bars that operate in residential areas, in tough new measures to curb noise pollution.
“No night club licenses will be issued or renewed for premises operating within residential areas, Those already issued are hereby cancelled and the establishments. May continue operating as bars and restaurants only. Henceforth night club licenses will be issued to premises only within the Central Business District and specified streets in other non-residential areas,” the statement signed by Dr Jairus Musumba, the acting county secretary stated in part.
Due to numerous complaints from the public on noise emanating from bars, restaurants, night clubs and liquor selling premises, Nairobi City County Government hereby makes the following communication: – Sakaja posted the statement on his official social mesia pages.
Bars are also required to stop playing music by 10pm.
“Bars and restaurants in residential areas must operate within the specified time and control noise emanating from their premises. Specifically, playing of music must stop by 10pm”
The Sakaja-led county government also listened to client’s complaints over parking space.
“All liquor-selling premises in the County should provide sufficient parking for clientele. Vehicles causing obstruction along roads and footpaths shall be impounded”.
