There’s a new developer that want to close an access road in Umoja Estate near Starmatt Supermarket.
Between Starmatt supermarket and Kirwa, there’s a building that hosts Think Twice second hands clothes seller.
On one side, there’s a path that should be a fully fledged road that run to Umoja 2 with many diversions making navigating the estate easier.
However, the path has now been grabbed and the developer wants to build a flat on that small space.
If allowed to continue, it will greatly inconvenience resents living behind Think Twice.
“Are you aware that hako ka chuom ka hapo Think Twice kanafungwa next month wanataka kujenga hapo gorofa? That means that watu wanaishi nyuma ya Think Twice itabidi wakue wakizunguka wakitaka kuenda stage. I feel that huyo mtu ako na right ya kujenga hapo but going by that road, mwenye Think Twice aligrab hio place because hio njia inatoka kwa chief and leads direct into his building, ‘ a resident whispered to Umoja News.
‘ I haven’t seen any map but I think it was grabbed. If the proposed building is to go by, then people who live behind that building itabidi wakue wanazunguka, which ni mbali sana. Traders wa hizo container kwa hako kachuom wanahama’.
Umoja News has been instrumental in calling for a redesign of the estate which is now turning into a serious slum with many fires and squeezed or grabbed access roads which make it hard for vehicles and pedestrians to move.
The land grabs are fuelling crime, poverty, fires abs inaccessibility by service vehicles such as fire engines.
