The fire that mysteriously started in Stella Area of Umoja Estate is linked to land grabbers.
Sources told Umoja News that local leaders have been angling for a piece of land to build a string of restaurants in Umoja Estate.
‘Viongozi wa hii area ndio ni kama wanataka kuchukua hapa waunde bar’, said a trader on the fire site.
Those claims could not be substantiated.
Umoja 1 Ward MCA Mark ‘Ronaldo’ Mugambi was at the scene to listen to the plight of his constituents. He was also at the scene last night helping redirect traffic.
Properties worth million of shillings were destroyed on the inferno.
Countless stalls with furniture were burned.
The Makuti thatched Jam Rescue restaurant was burned completely as it was largely made of timber.
Four nearby houses, including a 3 storey house, where the fire is believed to have started were damaged.
At the time of going to press, Umoja News could only establish that undercover DCI operatives were in the vicinity but am active investigations such as collection of samples from the fire area wasn’t ongoing.
This means that the govt wasn’t intent on establishing if it was an arson attack or an accident.
The fire razed down everything where it touched, especially the business stalls and the restaurant because of the materials available on site.
Plastics, timber, flammable glue, alcohol littered the place; making it hard for fire engines to stop the fire.
The response was hampered by lack of water, fuel for the fire engines and crowds at the scene.
No person died in the inferno.
Only one person was injured in the rescue operations. He was run over on both legs by a fire engine. An ambulance took 30 minutes to reach the scene of accident.
