A viral video of a self-driving Audi car in Nairobi was recently shared.
The first mistake done by the people that shared the video was that it was recorded along Thika Road or Thika Superhighway. This was false as it is clearly a road under our coverage, that is Outering road, Nairobi.
Even some blogs picked up the lie, maybe to raise the profiles of the stunt.
Secondly, the video showed the driver seated in the passenger’s seat while filming the car cruising along Thika Road.
Upon deeper scrutiny of the video by car enthusiasts, it was established that the vehicle was on a truck’s flatbed. A few Kenyans online were quick to point out the ruse pulled by the driver after the majority of users were hoodwinked.
We also confirmed that self-driving cars are yet to be allowed into the country due to the lack of a regulatory framework and other challenges.
Also, Outering is an unfinished road with no clear marked lanes and thus such a vehicle would find it hard to drive on such a dangerous road.
