The current Umoja 1 Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mr Mark Mugambi aka Ronaldo says MCA have failed in their mandate and that the future of the County Assembly of Nairobi was not guaranteed.
Early this year, some functions of the County Government of Nairobi were taken up by the National Government.
Mike Sonko and Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa signed the deed of transfer at State House Nairobi in February.
Nairobi MCAs didn’t like this,
“We decided that we cannot decide for ourselves and we let other people think for us. Up to 90 per cent of us will not be reelected because we have failed our constituents,” said Mr Mugambi.
Other MCAs called for the dissolution of the County Government.
Development record at home
Perhaps Mugambi was right that they had failed Nairobi.
Going by his record at home, the youthful MCA has been on the forefront in supporting businesses in the area.
His record of paving roads is also commendable.
However, some inner sections of roads remain undone, garbage still litter these dark alleys and he was criticized for ‘love of billboards’, instead of development on the ground.
Most billboards adorn the Umoja 1 (Ward) sections of Moi Drive shows pictures of Mark Mugambi and Embakasi West legislator George Theuri promoting the projects initiated by them.
“Compared to the other wards in the constituency, Umoja 1 ward is cleaner, but we need all feeder roads paved”, a resident who spoke to Umoja News said.
