The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has noted that there’s an increase in the cases of defilement in Kenya and has asked for wananchi to volunteer information on such persons.
DCI has also schooled Kenyans on what to do in case a defilement or attempted defilement occurs.
Defilement cases have been on the rise, in the recent months. We have a responsibility to educate the public on this and other such vices. This falls within our mandate of maintaining Law & Order and Preventing Crime, as encapsulated in Cap 84 (35), laws of Kenya.
You are advised that whenever such an offence occurs, it is incumbent on you to reassure the victim, and make an immediate report to the nearest law enforcement agency for prompt action.
Where possible, endeavour to ensure that the scene is not disturbed, the victim doesn’t take a shower and the victim’s clothes are well preserved until the relevant medical tests are conducted.
