Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has termed as false claims that the government-funded Linda Mama program has been scrapped off by the government.
There has been widespread social media messages purporting the that the program has been discontinued.
Nakhumicha, however, lauded the program which has benefited over 6 million mothers since its inception in 2017 saying those peddling the falsehoods are daydreamers.
“The Linda Mama program is noble and it is here to stay,” she said when she toured Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. During the tour, the CS indicated that plans are at an advanced stage to build a new Referral Hospital in Uasin Gishu which will serve patients from the North Rift and Western region.
The Linda Mama program targets expectant women with an aim of reducing maternal and child deaths.
It also seeks to alleviate the struggles shouldered by mothers in paying medical bills during pregnancy and childbirth while encouraging them to seek services of a skilled birth attendant.
Under the program, expectant mothers access a one-year cover for four antenatal visits, normal or Caesarean section delivery, three postnatal care visits and vaccines for the child.
