Ministry of Health Principal Secretary Ms Susan Mochache today launched the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
MoH Director General, Dr Patrick Amoth led the health workers in receiving the first Covid-19 jab, followed by the KNH Chief Executive Officer Dr Evans Kamuri and the Head of Immunization program Dr Collins Tabu.
Among the first health workers to receive the jab was Jemimah Katana, an assistant nurse at the hospital. It is expected by the end of the day about 100 health workers would have been vaccinated.
WHO country Representative Dr Rudi Eggers, Unicef Country Representative Ms Maniza Zaman attended the event among others.
The government plans to vaccinate 30 percent of the population over a 3 year period.
Twenty percent of the vaccine will come through COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) initiative (Covax), 10% will be procured by the government.
All these will be overseen by a 16 member steering committee and a 25 member vaccine deployment task force.
