Twitter user Engineer Nyasikera (Arap_Nyasikera) is a lucky dude after he successfully gave chase and recovered his mobile phone that had been snatchedd by robbers in Eastleigh.
It happened a long time ago, but it is a story that reads like a movie.
“On 1st May 2021, Sunday afternoon I left Eastleigh Airbase after a meeting. In a slight traffic around Shell, someone hit the side-mirror on the passenger side. As I turned to look, another snatched my 3-day old phone and walked away casually. I took my tool, released the safety and gave a chase”
Caution to the wind
People shouted that those boys would kill me if I pursued them. I chased nonetheless, slid and fell down, but I continued. I found 7 mean-looking tall boys at the riverbank, all dressed the same. White t-shirts, black rugged jeans and fake black Vans rubber shoes. I told them: I have 20K which I will give you in exchange for my phone. One of them asked me to point to point out who took it. Realizing it was gone and over, I asked them to follow me with the phone or else they will appear in the news the following day.
Women used to store stolen goods
As I walked back to the the road, an old lady called out: she had my phone-that boys had thrown it to her as they ran. She demanded ‘2K za macho’ and that she will walk me all the way to the car first. I obliged, went and sat in the car, released the safety clip & tucked the item away. I gave her 2K, she handed me the phone and ran off, as old as she was.
Reckless chase
My laptop and 100K in cash was intact as I had left the car open with the engine running. It was the most risky and stupid thing I ever did, chasing ruthless gangs after a phone of less than 100K while leaving cash and other valuables in the middle of the road.
The pain and warning
And the pain set in later where I had sustained bruises from the fall. Mathare, Mlango Kubwa, Kwa Reuben, Deep sea, California, Kiambiu and Korogocho are areas I will only visit with 500/- & no phone. I also drive with windows up always”
The end.
