Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson announced the fight against water cartels after he toured Embakasi South Thursday morning.
“A lot of illegal water connections have hampered delivery of water services to the people of Nairobi for years. Together with the Ministry of Water and the Water Police Unit, we are stopping this. Joined the team in Embakasi South this afternoon in restoring the pipes. This particular one even had a pumping station supplying flats in the area. We have reached out to the innocent buyers to formalize their connections with meters and have arrested the culprits,” the governor announced on his Twitter feed.

It is believed that unscrupulous water vendors in lorries sabotage public water distribution to enable them to sell water at astronomical profits.
