Anti-corruption body EACC on Wednesday morning arrested four police officers who were collecting bribes by harassing motorists along Outer Ring Road.
At the time of the arrests, the officers who were being watched by the sleuths had collected over Sh15,000 in about two hours.
“Following investigations into numerous complaints from users of Outering Road in Nairobi that they have consistently witnessed traffic police officers openly collecting bribes from motorists, EACC, yesterday morning, arrested 4 officers engaging in the act on the said road. The officers include Sgt Burton Mathenge, PC Charo Katana and Cpl Sarah Karimi of Buruburu Police Station, & Sgt Abraham Kiptoo of Embakasi Police Station. Detectives apprehended the officers at about 9:30am and recovered Kes. 15,820, largely, in denominations of 50, 100 &200. The suspects were escorted to EACC Integrity Centre Police Station where they were interviewed and later released on police bail of Kes. 10,000 each pending finalization of the remaining aspects of the investigation”, EACC Wrote
