In 2020 and 2021, the planned roads renovation projects in Umoja Estate and iits environs were broadcasted with hype and pomp.
But many months later, all of them have stalled.
To jog your memory, in October 2020, Embakasi West MP George Theuri had promised to upgrade roads to cabro standards, in Section 8, Umoja 2.
Kenya Rural Roads Authority staff were photographed on site and residents cheered the move as it would solve so many muddy encounters that befall them during rainy season.
Zone 8 is that area around Unity, the road that passes in front of Nabuto Supermarket.

The above roads were supposed t e done in 2021 before the elections.
Then later on in February 2021, Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) announced a raft of road repairs coasting about Sh1 billion in and around Umoja Estate.
The project which was to be undertaken at a cost of Sh902million was to touch on eight roads within Umoja Innercore and its environs.
In the NMS project, the following roads were to be upgraded to bitumen standards; Ruaraka Crescent Road, Kangundo Moi Drive link, Malewa – Mwangaza Road, Nasra Estate Road, Kifaru Mutindwa Road, Kangundo Service Road, Mowlem Link Road, and Outer Ring Road.
Also, the road that passes in front of SDA Umoja 1 SDA church, christened Mutindwa –Kifaru road is the most conspicuous in this stalled project.
Building and business stalls were demolished, some others were marked for demolition and tenants asked to vacate. However, the road project that was supposed to be completed before the 2022 General Elections has not yet started.
Landlords have suffered huge losses.

NMS, Theuri and KERRA have never given an update about the projects.
As we go into the elections, this is one of George Theuri’s Achilles heels as Mark Mwenje has gained a lot of ground by pointing out his dismal drainage, roads and other such infrastructure, records.
