Residents of Umoja Estate and other areas in Nairovi should prepare themselves for water rationing.
Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company (NCWSC) says the water supply will be cut off for two days beginning Thursday morning.
NCWSC says the disruption follows the shutdown of Ng’ethu Water Treatment Plant and will allow for repair and maintenance works at the Mwagu water intake along Chania river.
The interruption in water supply will commence Thursday at 6 am to Friday, 6 pm
“This will facilitate major repair and maintenance works at Mwagu water intake along the Chania river from where we abstract raw water to the water treatment works in preparation of the coming short rains” NCWSC managing Director Nahason Muguna said in a statement on Tuesday.
Some of the areas to be affected include Nairobi Central District, University of Nairobi, Coca Cola factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, EPZ-Athi River, South B and South C.
The whole of Industrial area, Mlango Kubwa, Mathare, Eastleigh, Moi Airbase, Huruma, Kariobangi and Pangani will also be affected.
Areas along Jogoo road are also affected namely Maringo, Buruburu, Bahati, Outer-Ring, Baba Dogo, Dandora, Umoja, Donholm, Fedha and surrounding areas.
Areas along Kangundo, Thika, Langata, Ngong, Naivasha and Kikuyu roads will also experience dry taps.
This is not the first time the company is shutting the water plant that supplies 85 pc of water to Nairobi.
In July major repair works were undertaken after heavy rains damaged the plant.
“While every effort is being made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we urge all residents in the affected areas to use water sparingly,” said Muguna
